Equine Assisted Psychotherapy & Equine Assisted Learning

“What I hear, I forget; what I see I remember; what I do I understand.”
Ancient Chinese Proverb
It has been estimated that while we remember 20% of what we hear, 50% of what we see, that we retain 80% of what we do. Our program is based on this premise and is proven to be a powerful, effective tool in assisting individuals who have emotional or behavioral challenges. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy & Equine Assisted Learning are experiential learning or learning by doing.

Stable Connections is dedicated to providing personal growth and educational services for people by offering a variety of programs to create positive change for children, adolescents and adults. We work with therapists, community agencies, schools, hospitals, residential treatment programs, government and military agencies, court services, families and corporations to achieve client goals.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a powerful and effective therapeutic approach that has an incredible impact on individuals, youth, couples, families, and groups, as well as military personnel and veterans, EAP addresses a variety of mental health and human development and behavioral challenges including ADD, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, substance abuse, anxiety, relationship problems and effective communication.

The focus is not riding or horsemanship, EAP or EAL involves setting up ground activities with horses that require individuals to apply certain skills. Participants learn about themselves and others participating in these activities with the horses. Then process (discuss) the feelings, behaviors and patterns that may arise.

Experiential activities with our horses help clients of all ages to improve their self esteem, build confidence, social and communication skills, relationships, and personal awareness. These activities help people learn to establish reasonable boundaries, earn respect and improve communications.

The therapy team at Stable Connections works closely with clients with ADHD, anxiety, behavioral disorders, chemical dependency, depression, grief, self-injury, PTSD, and other mental health or relationship issues. EAP is an alternative to traditional talk therapy but is is also successful when used in conjunction with other therapies. It is a solution focused collaboration between licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist and horses working together.

Equine Assisted Learning

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) focuses on education and developing specific life skills, such as motivating a sales force in a corporation or cultivating anti-bullying techniques in schools. Examples of the tools utilized and developed are non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership, taking responsibility, teamwork and confidence.

Ideal for children, adolescents and adults seeking to develop the tools and strategies needed to make good choices. An excellent way to experience the benefits of our programs for those not requiring therapy. Experience very unique opportunities with our highly trained staff and horses to develop and practice new skills with others.
